Music Project: Indie Rock

Indie rock means any artist that is or were usigned or that signed to an idependent label instead of with a major label. Indie rock became popular during the 1970's in the U.K. Indie Rock gained popularity mainly by independent music magazines, even though they were rarely played on the radio or on television. Indie bands have a lot of freedom to write music because there main motivation is not ro make a lot of money or sell CD's but instead to genuinly express themselves through music. Indie rock became more known in the U.S. during the 80's after big bands such as the Pixies and Sonic Youth came out. Today Indie rock is still very popular exspecially the English Indie rock band The Kooks. We chose to do their song "By the Seaside" for our cover song. This song was written by Luke Pritchard who is the lead sing and guitarist of the band. He grew up in Yorkshire seaside town of Saltburn in England. He met the rest of his bandmates in college and they started the band in 2004 but became really famous in 2007.
